Immediate Needs

While the Sisters presently serve among the peoples of three countries: Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in East Africa as well as in the United States, several of our missions have immediate needs and concerns:

Most Kenyans live without any source of clean water

Fresh water supply for Mweiga

The sisters operate several schools, a hospital, an orphanage and a novitiate house in Mweiga, which is about 2 1/2 hours north of Nairobi. Only in the past few years has there been running water for the hospital, and this comes straight from the river, which is an unreliable source because of the lack of adequate rainfall.

The ravages of diseases such as AIDS and malaria have left millions of orphans throughout Africa

Bath house for Maria Immaculata Children's Center

In Kiamumbi which is several miles from the center of Nairobi, the Sisters began an orphanage several years ago. There were originally two bath houses for the 100 children. Because of the devastation from AIDS, there are now 300 children at the orphanage, and one bath house is unusable.

Shoes for orphans in the slums of Bahati

Bahati is an area within Nairobi where in 1994, the Sisters began caring for the needs of orphans. The Sisters now serve between 250-300 children. A new pair of shoes is a luxury that most of these children have never experienced.
